Before you can reach conclusions based on your data, you need to understand what the data are telling you. The best way to do this is by vizualizing data in as many ways as you can.

With our partners at IGI Development, we give seminars to professionals to help them expand their proficiency with Excel, a powerful analytic tool.

You will learn how to develop univariate graphics, i.e., graphics that look at one variable at a time.

For metric (quantitative) variables, you will learn how to create the following graphs:

• Histograms
• Dot Plots (horizontal, unit/serial)
• Frequency Polygons
• Quantile Plots

In addition, we will provide you with macros to generate stem-and-leaf and quartile (box) plots.

We will also show you how to generate descriptive statistics using both the Analysis ToolPak add-in, and Excel's worksheet built-in functions, and we will discuss which graph is best suited for the type of data you are analyzing.

Furthermore, you will learn how to create graphs that plot more than one variable at a time. We will also explore categorical variables using pivot tables.

Finally, we will examine time-series data, and you will learn how to

• plot moving-averages (with error-bars)
• perform exponential smoothing
• create control charts for quality assurance
